The drama seems to have captured my attention. I seem to have reached episode 27 already. Oops? 😂

Pesky thing called work is slowing down the binge watching but that is probably a good thing.

Other things that I have watched include the documentary about The Loneliest Whale in the World and also the first part of In The Soop 2 with BTS.

Bit if a mixed bag but all good.

I eventually had to give up on doing a full Guardian re-watch as I kept get distracted by Douluo Continent. As a result, for the latter half of Guardian I just watched favourite scenes to reinforce my love for our beautifully tormented tragic heroes.

I did make it through all of the aforementioned Douluo Continent which was supremely silly and sweet, I loved it.

I am working my way through the Bon Voyage seasons of the BTS reality show. It is cheerful and offers vicarious travel while the world is still mostly stuck at home.

Once the holiday weekend is over, I am planning to watch The Untamed again.

To anybody reading this, I hope you and yours are healthy, happy and that life is treating you well.

I need a better method of viewing things, that is the realisation that I have come to. 😂

Guardian re-watch -- Shen Wei is chained to a pillar and nobly enduring.

Douluo Continent -- I have just finished episode 27?! Still supremely odd and slightly silly but I am liking it.

Nirvana in Fire -- tried to give this a go again, stalled on episode 3.

BTS Bon Voyage Season 1 -- ready to watch epiosode 5.

I have to remember to log into this account more, my bad.

Got so distracted by random nonsense over the last few weeks that I completely lost track of my Guardian re-watch so I started again... oops?

I am now to the point where Zhao Yunlan has figured out who Shen Wei is and now just had to get him to admit it, fun times are imminent. 😁

Other than that, I have watched the first four episodes of DouLuo Continent. Xiao Zhan's character is fun and intriguing, the ensemble cast is growing on me and the show itself is quite goofy but I like it so far.

I keep telling myself I don't need to be rewatching The Untamed at the same time but we'll see how long that lasts.

Hope everyone out there in the world of dreamwidth is doing well.

I finally finished watching something! I honestly thought I had forgotten how to actually start and finish something.

The programme in question is a slightly older Taiwanese one called Lion Pride. It was a Netflix suggestion so I gave it a go. It wasn't my normal type of choice for a foreign drama but it was enjoyable enough. Each episode was about an hour and ten minutes long, I am soooo not used to that anymore.

I think my reward will be to start The Untamed again. 😁

Been a while since my last update.

The Untamed has been completed again. I am delighted to say this means I can start viewing it again from the beginning and I shall start this and Guardian at some point next week.

Oh! My Emperor is now up to episode 20. I swear I can feel my brain cells dying when I watch it but Xiao Zhan remains pretty. I hate 97% of the characters so I don't know how much longer even his presence in this show can make me continue. Only other plus is each episode is less than 30 minutes.

Almost Human is only up to #3. Good few years since I watched this but I do like grumpy Karl Urban.

Also watched the Jade Dynasty movie which was fairly fun, if a bit confusing, but it had Xiao Zhan, a dragon, a monkey and a dog. It was a pleasant enough way to pass the time.

Also watched episode #1 of Joy of Life. I liked some of the characters so I will stick with it for a bit longer.

No change to any other shows I have been watching.

Music and episodes seems to be my default relaxation during this period with some reading added into the mix. Finally found a fanfic for The Untamed with Sentinels! I would have thought there would be more of those.

Anyway, this is just a reminder for me where I am up to with episodes:

Oh! My Emperor now at #8. I keep thinking I am going to give this insanity up and then Xiao Zhan wanders into shot looking ridiculously pretty.

MDZS still at #8.

Royal Sister Returns/The Princess is Back still at #5.

The Untamed now at #47 and will be finished again by the end of the weekend.

The King's Avatar now at #22. Catching a few things I missed on first viewing.

Itaewon Class due to start #4.

Almost Human at #2. I took a notion for adorably grumpy Karl Urban.

I might give Nirvana in Fire another go (I really get bored by political manoeuvring) or I might try something else entirely.

Hope everyone is staying safe and doing well.

I am now up to episode 5 of Royal Sister Returns/The Princess is Back. It still makes not much sense but the lead female character is not annoying me too much and ZYL remains adorable and funny.

I am also up to episode #44 of The Untamed because I just can't seem to stop watching it.

Currently the only other thing I watch religiously each week is The Repair Shop on BBC1. It is relaxing viewing and the talents of the craftspeople who do the restorations are engrossing to see.

Well, that is the last 3 episodes of Guardian finished again.

I do love re-watching this show, it is delightfully dramatic, angsty, definitely OTT and so full of the romangst (yes, I know it is not a real word 😁) of the two main characters.

This show got me interacting with new fannish people for the first time in years instead of sticking to the IRL fiendships that inevitably formed over a solid 15 years attending the same conventions for older shows that are now not as popular. We eventually all ended up moving on to other fandoms, they stuck with more mainstream shows and I lingered in the wilderness a bit. The friendships have outlasted fandom so I am okay with that.

I also watched episode 1 of The Princess is Back / Royal Sister Returns via YouTube, solely because of seeing [personal profile] yantantether mentioning Zhu Yilong doing comedy. It shows up with two completely different English name on YouTube and I don't know why. He definitely wears the pastel blue suit as mentioned in their introduction to the show.

Definitely seems a bit wacky but I will give another few episodes a go before I make up my mind if I will complete watching it.

I judged enough of a pause in my viewing to go back to the beginning of Mo Dao Zu Shi and start again. Now up to the start of #8 and definitely into new territory. I am not as intensely focussed as I was with the tv drama but I can definitely appreciate the pretty, pretty animation. Lotus Cove is prettier in this, IMHO.

As for the drama, I am about to start episode #23 I my re-watch of The Untamed via Netflix. Sunshot is now done and gone and the aftermath is starting. Still want to slap most of the Cultivation world about their heads at this point.

I think the last three episodes of Guardian are next up. I was saving them for the holiday weekend.

Netflix and Amazon Prime continue to be helpful in providing things to watch.

I am still paused at Guardian #38 and I think I shall leave the rest of that for the Easter bank holiday in lieu of a chocolate egg.

In no particular order, I am now at the following:

Oh! My Emperor #6 - still makes no sense, still don't care. Xiao Zhan is pretty.

Itaewon Class #3 - intrigued so far.

The King's Avatar #18 - catching things I missed on my first viewing, still makes me smile.

The Untamed #15 - tortoise is now done which means more bad things to come. Quicker I get through to #33 again, the better. I much prefer the latter portion of the show to the middle.

I have also watched all of season two of Well Intended Love. I don't know if it is a regular thing in Asian dramas to do a completely different version of the characters getting together but that is basically what they did. I quite enjoyed the first season so I went with it and watched season two. Still slightly creepy, a bit saccharine and silly and not very sensible. That seems to be my preferred viewing choice in this current climate. I liked it.

Taking a break from work and doing a belated update (as I forgot to do it last night).

Guardian re-watch: I have continued zooming through the eps, Kunlun has been explained, crazy scientist dude went crazy again, things have happened to Lin Jing and I am ready to start episode 38. I figured that was a good place to stop for a bit.

The King's Avatar is still shiny, slightly goofy and has a smidge of angst now and then. Re-watch paused ready to start episode 15.

The Untamed is next for a batch of viewing.

Hope everyone is doing okay.
020104isme: Part of an icon batch by sheliak (Default)
I am only back up to episode 10 of The Untamed. I don't find the back in time episodes as exciting as #33 onwards but I cannot deny they have some interesting character interactions. They are also ridiculously pretty.

Guardian has just finished episode #33 with Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan chilling on a bench. Exciting and heart breaking things to come.

King's Avatar is just as shiny on second viewing, up to the start of episode 4 there.

I also found Oh! My Emperor on Amazon Prime. I freely admit I only started to watch it because Xiao Zhan is in it. I have no clue what is going on in it. Up to episode 4 there too.

Anyone got any other suggestions for watching?

I have had a quiet week of work and home life. Hope everyone else is staying safe and looking after themselves in these interesting times.

Viewing has been re-watch central this week. This post is just remind me where I am up to.

The Untamed (part way through episode 9)
Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain (last 3 episodes watched again)
Guardian (about to start episode 30)

Adding to the viewing list as of tomorrow:
King's Avatar (starting again from episode 1)
020104isme: Part of an icon batch by sheliak (Default)
Well, I finished Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain. It remained very silly, with definitely a completely different vibe to The Untamed. I actually grew very fond of the show by the end of things, especially the two leads. I will never be as fond of it as I am of The Untamed but I will re-watch this at some point.

It did prompt me to start another re-watch of The Untamed. I am now through episodes 1 and 2 again and I definitely noticed more this time around.

I left off with Guardian again just as the Merit Brush stuff is starting, the letter has been sent to SID with a challenge to identify the owner of the brush and we all know that means things are going to start getting worse.

My intention is to jump between Guardian and The Untamed for a bit. I admit some of the next stuff for The Untamed will be watched with a finger on the fast forward button. I will put up with the history because it will make things much more interesting when it jumps back to the present in episode 33. To break things up, I might jump back into the Mo Dao Zhu Shi animation. I am still not passed episode 5 in that yet.

Hope everyone is having fun in whatever watching/re-watching of dramas that they currently have going on.

Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain remains silly and addictive.

For any Guardian fans, Gao Yu Er (Zhu Hong) has a role in it.

I went eeny meeny miny moe the other day on Netflix. I am now 15 episodes in to viewing Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain.

I realise it is a rom-com but goodness me it is like a rollercoaster of ridiculous craziness. I find it strangely hypnotic and incredibly silly at the same time.

I am trying to convince myself to finish other shows by watching the start of new (to me) shows. There is no logic there at all, I know this. 😁

Anyway, as one's lovely sister-in-law is Turkish, I decided to try two Netflix shows from Turkey. Both have mystical aspects and are decidedly odd. I can't make up my mind if I will watch any more.

The Protector (have only seen ep. 1)
The Gift (have watched the first two eps)

Just putting the titles out there in case anyone is curious. In both cases heed the rating/warnings from Netflix.

If I am perfectly honest with myself, I will be shocked if I haven't started 're-watching at least bits of The Untamed by the weekend.

First and foremost, the casting director that put Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo together deserves a gift basket of *all* the chocolate as a thank you.

Characters that I adored:
Wei Wuxian
Lan Zhan
Lan Sizhui
Wen Ning
Wen Qing
Apple
The bunnies

Characters I grew to like:
Lan Xichen
Jin Ling
Jian Cheng
Jin Guangyao
The assorted baby cultivators

I am not overly fond of backwards jumps in time in tv shows but I will admit it worked for this show. Having to wait until episode 33 to get things moving again was a touch much, I felt.

I loved all interactions between WWX and LZ and would probably watch another entire series of them looking after baby cultivators and being long-suffering while doing so.

I am aware that WWX and Jian Cheng's sister is missing from my list of characters I liked and that is because I found her very bland. The most rocking sister in the show came from the Wen clan, at least as far as I am concerned.

Overall bad guy (JG) was slimy and tricksy and horrible. As such, his character revelations as the show went on worked for me. He was a much more interesting bad guy than the head of the Wen clan.

The other clan leaders I could cheerfully have slapped for their double standards, sheer stupidity and generally existing and upsetting WWX and LZ.

I liked that there were still recriminations between WWX and Jian Cheng but that things were made up between them (and Jin Ling) as much as they ever could be.

I liked that LZ's brother was able to listen to the unthinkable regarding a person he thought of so highly and not immediately dismiss listening to bad news he didn't want to hear. Showed a marked distance from any other person in a position of authority within the clans.

The show was gorgeous, the music sublime and it had an ending that seemed appropriate for the tale.

Well, it is a good thing I had no plans for today as The Untamed would have broken each and every one of them.

I have now watched all of this show and I am pleasantly surprised by the ending. To those that said the ending is happier than Guardian you are not wrong.

WWX and LZ remain a beautiful pair of beings and I even came to appreciate some of the ancillary characters towards the end.

If anyone I know gets a puppy any time soon, they're getting told to call it Ghost General. He was a firm favourite throughout as well.

I know I will re-watch this but I might finish Guardian again first and read some fic for The Untamed before watching it again.

Recommendations on the fic front are more than welcome.
