Guardian re-watch (ep. 34 & 35)

This will be a bit disjointed because that is the way my brain is working today.

Wang Zheng and Sang Zan were sweet together up until the end and at least they got to be together.

ZYL immediately asking about Lin Jing when he realised you know who was through the SID shield clearly demonstrates his concern for all the people he claims as his.

I know they are played by the same actor (who is extremely talented) but SW is sparkles, sunshine & spectacular while YZ is a slimeball. It is a bit disconcerting.

Everything with ZYL finally figuring things out in the past is happy making and tragic at the same time because it is so clear that he wants to wrap baby SW up in fuzzy blankets and just coddle him to pieces.

SW & ZYL having their conversation about the 10000 years is sad and sweet in equal measure.

Da Qing as a kitten Yashou in the past is adorable, I honestly expected Kunlun to give him a ball of string and a fishy to play with. I feel so sad that he had to wait so long to get his master back.

*This* is why I became interested in Zhu Yi Long, and for the first time in my life actually decided follow an actor into a franchise (I mean Lost Tombs Reboot, provided we ever get subs!) The way he portrays two polar opposite characters, in addition to all the different 'versions' of Shen Wei himself, is one of the most captivating things about Guardian for me.

Everything about the past arc is wonderful, except for how short it was. One of the rare occasions where I've decided to completely ignore the show writers' intentions and headcanon Zhao Yun Lan's time there as being something in the region of one month, at the very least. No way Shen Wei and Da Qing, neither of whom are the kind of people to pledge their loyalty easily, would be so taken with him otherwise!

If there are subs for the Lost Tombs reboot, I will be watching as well.

This show and both its lead actors have captured my attention in a way that western tv (with only a couple of exceptions) has not done in an age.

If Detective L has subs as promised, that will also be on the watch list.

I would completely agree that more time passes in the past than the show implies. I know by the time they are back with Da Qing only two days have actually passed due to the timey-wimey wormhole but there is no way people fighting a war will trust anyone that implicitly that fast... no matter how splendid ZYL is at pretending to be Kunlun.

Most people in English-language fandom use the wine-making thing as a benchmark for the *minimum* time ZYL spent in the past (one month). The wine-making is just one of things that made it seem obvious to me on unspoiled first watch that ZYL spent a significant amount of time Back Then--so obvious that I'm confused there are people who think it was only a day or two.

Do you think it's actually TPTB's intention that ZYL was only in the past a day or so? Because the wine-making makes a month seem like a minimum.

It always seemed like a short time was implied but I know it wasn't as short as a couple of days. I picture it as a week or so.

For me, the wine making thing just makes things slightly more confusing because I have no frame of reference for alcohol in China, Japan, Korea or wherever, other than the Japanese make some rather nice whisky *g*. Add in to that that I don't know how long wine-making took in ye olden days compared to modern techniques.

The most coherent thing about the time travel is SW saying time passes differently at the node (can't quite remember the exact wording) & the final confirmation that they were only gone for two days.

It could have been a week, it could have been a month... based on the weather not really changing, the only thing you can safely argue is that it was not a couple of seasons.
